Heey,
I'm home again! I'll first tell you what we did the second week..
Saterday: We went to Robbeneiland with a boat from Cape town. I enjoyed seeing the place and having the tour around the prison. You could read stories in some cells which was nice to learn what happened at that time. After that we went to the District 6 museum. Noor was a man who lived in the district 6 and he told his story about his family and how he had experienced what happened at that time. I found the museum very interesting and I learned a lot. I loved that Noor told his story and it made it really clear what happened there.
Sunday: We started the day with a hopp on - hopp off tour through Cape town. It was nice to see the different sides of the city en for example where district 6 was located. With the bus we went on to the Tafelberg. We went up with a cable-lift and enjoyed the view... The view that was a little bit hidden behind a enormous cloud. Unfortunately we couldn't see anything further that 5 meters from where we were walking but it was fun to have been there. We went back to the bus again and finished the tour. In the afternoon we got free time in the older part of Cape town. We visited a market (Green market) and then went out for dinner. As we were eating it started raining and so we came back in the car all wet.
Monday: First we went to school to pick up the buddy's. Then we went together in their school bus to the safari. We got lunch, petted an elephant and saw a lot of other animals including the big 5. It was really fun to have the buddy's around again.
Tuesday: At school we participated in the assembly and then went to do social services again. This time we painted the whole playground and left the place really colorful. In the evening we had a so called 'braai' (BBQ) which was a lot of fun. That evening I realized how close my buddy and I had become.
Wednesday: Today we went to the most southern part of Africa, Cape Agulhas. It was really nice to have seen, we saw the view from a lighthouse and also saw some nice animals in the waters close to the sea. We even saw a little turtle, really cute. We got some time to enjoy the lovely sun at the beach, and to swim in the sea. Later that day we went out for dinner in a really cute restaurant and had a nice dinner.
Thursday: Today was the day we prepared for quite a long time, the lessons! My group and I got 2 classes of 25 students and got to teach them for a few hours. We played games, teached them about the Netherlands and answered their questions. It was really fun and even though I hate standing in front of classes, I loved doing this! Then we went to school for the last assembly, we had to say goodbye to our buddy's... It was really emotional, but fortunaly some buddy's were able to spend the afternoon with us still so we went swimming. We had a lot of fun, promised to keep in touch and to visit each other some time again. In the evening we ate lovely boboti and dessert and then all had t o hurry packing out suitcases. After 21:00 the electric power would be switched of because of a national crises. In the end nothing happened, but everyone was finished packing in time this way ;)
Friday: Final checks, pack all suitcases in the cars and leave for the airport... Bye hostel, bye view, bye Genadendal. We spend the day in Waterfront shopping and then really had to go to the airport. The flight went a lot better than the first one and before I realized it I was in the arms of my parents again. Back in Holland, with a piece of Africa in my heart!
I'm really thankful for having been able to experience this. I have seen a lot of things most people don't get to see, and we had a really nice group! I am certainly going back some day!!!
